Moon pendant lights are among Verner Panton’s earliest designs from 1960. Even here, his ability to work with light as a material is evident – not merely as a source of illumination, but as an element that shapes the atmosphere of a space. Moon is iconic for its fan-like arrangement of ten circular lamellae, which create a subtly structured silhouette.
The lamellae are precisely positioned to reflect and filter the light, resulting in soft, ambient illumination without glare. The luminaires also change visually depending on the viewing angle – at times appearing compact, at others more open and layered. This sense of movement and dynamism is one of the defining characteristics of the collection.
Both the lamellae and the ceiling canopy are made of lacquered metal, emphasising the graphic clarity of the form. The collection also includes a version in translucent acrylic, giving the light an even softer and more diffused quality.
Moon lights are ideally suited above dining tables, in living rooms or entrance halls, where they function as a striking yet refined lighting object. They work beautifully as a single piece or arranged in compositions of different sizes.
