At first glance, it looks Pair quiet and sophisticated, but on closer inspection it impresses with its interactivity. Each piece can stand on its own or combine to form different shapes - from minimalist arches to rhythmic assemblies.

At the beginning was an X, which Tornøe cut in half
Designer Lars Tornøe based the design on the precision of aluminium profiles. He was intrigued by the contrast between the strictly technical process of extruding aluminium and the subtle shape that resulted. The original idea of four continuous arms eventually gave birth to a concept that exceeded expectations - Tornøe split it into two parts from which you can now build countless different variations.

"In the initial phase, the candlestick was shaped like an X when viewed from above, but when I cut it in half, it took on a whole new character. Suddenly there was room for interaction and for people to customise its shape," explains Tornøe.
A small accessory with a big character
Candleholders Pair are made of anodised aluminium, which paradoxically makes them look robust and light at the same time. The gentle curves and matt surface give them a haptic character where one is tempted to touch them.

Muuto produces candleholders in two heights and a muted colour palette that blends well together. So you can combine them in height and colour.

Pair is proof that even a small object can have a big impact on the atmosphere of an interior. It is modular and different in every form, which Tornøe confirms, "I wanted to challenge the traditional, static layout of four candles. Once divided, the candleholder gained freedom because you can assemble it completely differently each time."

The candle holders Pair are perfectly suited to minimalist interiors, but their rounded curves also make them look cosy in classic spaces.
