Research by the Institute of Biomechanics at ETH Zurich (one of the most renowned universities in the world) has shown that ID chairs fully utilise their movement potential and thus contribute to a healthier sitting experience. Tests on an electromyograph (which monitors the biosignals coming from the muscles) showed that people who sit on ID chairs intuitively activate the central muscles in the lower back and lower abdomen. This is because the back of the chair leans forward, forcing the sitter to resist the pressure. This stimulates metabolism and stabilizes the lumbar spine. In addition, magnetic resonance imaging has confirmed that the reclining function stimulates movement in all parts of the lumbar spine. This relieves pressure and promotes the spread of nutrients to the intervertebral discs. ID chairs thus help to prevent health problems.
