Antonio Citterio

Antonio Citterio (* 1950) is an Italian designer. Antonio Citterio was born in Meda, Italy, studied architecture in Milan and after graduating began working with Terry Dwan, with whom he designed several buildings in Japan and Europe.

He founded his own studio of design and architecture in 1972. 28 years later he fouded another one with Patricia Viel called "Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel" - an architectural, design and graphic office that still deals with international projects.

Citterio’s work is characteristic by the effort to awaken emotions, stimulate the intelect and reflect the quality of life. He seeks to create a dialogue on various issues with involvement of other parties. Citterio is also known primarily for his sensitivity to the environment.

So far in his career, he has recieved several awards, the most important being the Golden Compass from 1987 and 1995. In 2008, he received the "Honorary Royal Designer for Industry" award from the Royal Society of Arts, Crafts and Trade (RSA).

Citterio designs for major brands such as Vitra, Hermès or Iittala. Among his recognizable pieces are without a doubt the timeless armchairs Repos and Grand Repos, which he designed in collaboration with Vitra.
