When you say Verner Panton, many design connoisseurs think of the Panthella lamp, among other icons. It was first launched in 1971 and the Louis Poulsen brand now also produces other versions and portable variants. We discussed its features, dimensions and comparison with another Pantone icon - the Flowerpot portable lamp - in a video on our instagram.

Iconic shape remains, original colours return
Louis Poulsen is relaunching Panton's original colourful lamp designs this year to mark the anniversary of his birth Panthella from the 1970s.
The original Panthella was designed on a chrome foot in 5 bold colours for the time. Panton was a visionary who wasn't afraid to break down ideas of what "classic" Danish design should look like and his aim was to bring more playfulness, colour and emotion into ordinary interiors and Panthella is a perfect example of this.

According to his wife Marianne Panton, he thought of the idea for Panthella for quite some time and spent a lot of time researching the transparency and colourfulness of the materials to be used for the lamp.
The opal shade and foot act as a reflector, diffusing the light softly and evenly. The result is a pleasant light that does not dazzle and creates a peaceful atmosphere - exactly what we are looking for in interiors today.

The portable Panthella 250 and 160 retain this iconic design only in a smaller, flexible format. But even in this portable form, it has not lost its charm and is proof that good design does not age, it just gains a new context.
