Like the Egg and Drop chairs, the Swan chairs were designed for the lobbies and lounges of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. These original design icons emerged from Arne Jacobsen's garage at his home in Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen, where he tested and finalised the shapes down to the last detail. The chairs are still manufactured by Fritz Hansen today.
At the time, the Swan chair was a revolutionary technological innovation, free of any straight lines and sharp edges. The body of the chair consists of a moulded synthetic shell resting on a swivel aluminium base.
