Standard chair by Vitra made of steel and natural oak wood. Colour: Metal Brut.

The Standard chair was designed in 1934/1950 by the French designer and architect Jean Prouvé. Prouvé based his designs on practicality and designed durable furniture without unnecessary decorations. Since chairs take the most stress on their back legs, where they bear the weight of the user's upper body, he made them from voluminous hollow sections. The front legs are made of steel tubing suffices, since they bear a relatively light load. The seat and backrest are made of wood.

The Standard chair, which looks very similar to another Prouvé design, the all-wood Chaise Tout Bois, is available in several colours.
