Parentesi lamps are among the iconic designs of Italian design, combining technical simplicity with imaginative function. This concept, created by designers Achille Castiglioni and Piem Manzù in the early 1970s, is still relevant today and brings an unusual way of working with light into interiors.
The characteristic element is the vertically stretched cable along which the luminaire itself moves. Thanks to this solution, the light can easily be moved to the desired height and directed exactly where it is needed. The luminaires work great as targeted reading lighting, but also as a subtle ambient light reflected from the wall or ceiling.
The cord is anchored between the ceiling and floor with a levitating weight to provide tension and stability without the need for a rigid fixing at the bottom. This technical detail also emphasises the lightness of the overall design and its visual clarity. The design combines a steel cable and a moulded metal tube with a head made of durable elastomer, which allows flexible adjustment of the direction of the light.
Parentesi lamps are suitable for living areas, work areas and bedrooms, where they offer variable lighting without the need for conventional floor lamps.
