Sven Ivar Dysthe

Norway

The Norwegian designer Sven Ivar Dysthe was also a cabinetmaker, later he studied product design. After studying in London, he set up his own design studio and from the 1960s onwards designed under his own name. His work has made its mark on a global scale, for example Vegglampe was launched in 2008 by the Northern brand under the new name Butterfly.

At the beginning of his career, Dysthe was also employed by the well-known design duo Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen. He is known for his design of the Dokka furniture or for his clever design of the safety ski binding. His main focus was on smart and as simple as possible solutions that are characterised by precise design.
