The Karl-Johan collection of glass and portable lamps by New Works was created by the young Danish designer Signe Hytte. She gave particular attention to detail in her design, reflecting her preference for simplicity.

The shape of the Karl-Johan lamps is based on trips into the deep autumn forest to pick mushrooms. The collection's poetically opposing pieces are inspired by the weather, which they respond to with soft light, as well as by the shapes of the mushroom caps themselves. This is particularly noticeable in the blown glass (or plastic) lampshade.
