The Egg™ Lounge Chair is a timeless icon of Danish modernism and a masterpiece by designer Arne Jacobsen. He created it in 1958 for the lobby of the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which he also designed.
Arne Jacobsen intended the organic shape of this chair as a contrast to the exclusively rectangular surfaces of the hotel building. The sculptural shape of the Egg™ chair was made possible by the use of a then-new technology of foam shell covered with upholstery. Arne Jasobsen was the first to use this technology.
Egg™ chairs are swivellable and the base allows for rocking. An automatic return mechanism can be purchased at an additional cost. The chairs are now manufactured under exclusive licence by the Danish brand Fritz Hansen and are available in a variety of upholstery fabrics, including the popular Kvadrat fabrics, as well as top quality leather.
The price is valid for a set of chair and footstool with upholstery from price category 1, which is Canvas fabric. Price and availability of other variants on request.
