Cecilie Manz

Denmark

Cecilie Manz (*1972) is one of the young wave of Danish designers whose work with furniture, lighting, ceramics and glass is very popular, recognized and appreciated by the public and professionals.

After graduating from Danmarks Designskole in 1997 and studying at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Cecilie Manz founded her own studio in Copenhagen in 1998. She designs furniture, glassware, lighting and other products, especially for the household. About her work she says:

She says of her work, "I see all my pieces as fragments of one big, ongoing story, where projects are often connected or linked in terms of their idea, materials and aesthetics, across time and function. My work has always revolved around simplicity and the creative process towards a clean, aesthetically worthy object."

At DesignVille you can find Cecilia Manz's famous Caravaggio pendants in particular, originally designed for Lightyears, now Fritz Hansen, as well as Mingus lamps. We can also mention her work for Muuto: the elegant Airy tables, or the Compile shelves.
Cecilia Manz's work is exhibited all over the world. For example, the Issey Miyake Design Studio Gallery in Tokyo, the Vitra Museum in Basel, The Third Design For Architecture Symposium, the Alvar Aalto Academy in Finland, the Danish Museum of Art and Design and many others.

Cecilia Manz's clients include such prominent firms as Fritz Hansen, Fredericia, Lightyears, Muuto, Georg Jensen, B&O, Iittala and others.

She has received numerous awards for her work, including the E. Kold Christensen Award, Finn Juhls Architectural Prize, Kunstpreis Berlin, Bruno Mathsson Award, Crown Prince Couples Cultural Award, IF Award, Red Dot Award and Danish Design Prize. She was also named Designer of the Year 2018 at the Paris Maison&Objet.
